“Working hand in hand to achieve potential”
The School Council
The school council was created to ensure that the pupil voice is being heard, and from that the council name ‘HortonEARS’ was born! Our primary focus is to encourage all pupils to be confident in speaking out and have their say about the running of the school, whilst collectively striving to ensure that the whole school is a happy and organised setting.
How we work…
The lead staff member for the school council is Julie, alongside Geraldine who acts as the link Governor. The school council currently consists of 8 representatives from across the school which were elected by their own class peers. Alongside these representatives, each class has their own council, of which every pupil within that room is a member and everyone is entitled to make any recommendations in regards improvements around the school. These recommendations are then taken to the regular school council meeting by their class council representative for discussion. After discussion, there recommendations are then submitted to the school’s Senior Leadership Team to be implemented across the school if deemed suitable.
What we do …
As well as meeting regularly to discuss changes around the school which will have a positive impact on the pupil’s school experience, the school council also work closely with local groups on projects for the school or the local community.
